From a mom and pediatrician
Dr. Chandra Puri, mom of four, understands the concerns parents have when deciding to vaccinate their children. Meet Dr. Puri and discover why vaccination is important.
Being a mom is both an amazing privilege and it’s an amazing scary thing. You have a lot of hopes and dreams for them and you really want them to reflect you in some way and yet you want them to be independent and to find their own space.
These are my four crazy boys. I get a chance to experience so many things, since I am a mom of four boys. Each child is unique and so the more opportunities for different things to happen. I think it’s really important to have some community while you’re raising children. There’s a lot that gets thrown at you that can be very scary because you don’t have a blueprint.
Why did you choose to vaccinate your children?
I know that there’s so many things out there that I can’t control for my own children. That’s why I believe that helping to protect against vaccine-preventable diseases is so important. With pediatric vaccination, I know there’s a large body of science and research that goes into the approval of vaccines, including determining potential side effects.
I think right now everybody has access to all sorts of information, and not all of that information is correct. So I think it’s still important to come back to your physician, to talk to them about the things that you’re concerned about, to understand what we’re trying to do to help protect your child. I think being a mom has really helped me in my pediatrics work. I want to use that to help other parents
understand how to take care of their children. That village concept is really true. I think it’s really important to have people who are in your corner. If you’re a mom too, talk to your doctor about vaccinations for your family.
